Police in Australia’s second-biggest city have found a sofa that was washed in a bath and then left on a bed in a hotel.
The orange sofa was found on a balcony in a luxury hotel in Sydney’s north on Wednesday, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Police say it’s possible the sofa was washed and then put on a mattress in a bathroom at the Hilton Garden Inn in the early hours of the morning.
“It’s certainly not something that you would normally expect to find on the balcony of a hotel,” Sydney Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said.
He said police were concerned about the safety of guests.
“We were concerned the furniture was in the wrong place and that the furniture might have been left on the bedside table or on the sofa,” he said.
“At the moment, there’s no information to suggest that there’s any criminal activity that’s been or that the items have been disposed of.”
The hotel manager did not return a phone call seeking comment.
Police are not releasing the name of the hotel, saying they are working with the hotel and the hotel’s management company to identify who left the sofa on the lounge and the location of any CCTV cameras.
They said they were still seeking CCTV footage from nearby properties to help them determine where the sofa came from.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
